Report of surface observation from a fixed land station is referred to as SYNOP. SYNOP is a numerical code (FM-12-XII) used for reporting weather observations made by manned and automated weather stations. SYNOP reports are typically sent every six hours. Report of surface observation from a mobile land station is referred to as SYNOP MOBIL. SYNOP MOBIL is a numerical code (FM-14-XII) used for reporting weather observations made by a mobile land station. Both reports consist of groups of numbers (and slashes where data is not available) describing general weather information.
