Detailed information
Product description:
Observatory is located in a boundary Arctic region that can be under the influence atmospheric air mass characteristics that evolved over either the Atlantic or Pacific oceans. It is a region of particular interest for Arctic atmospheric pollution. The variable air masses sources create a natural laboratory to study the influence that the various source regions of Russia, Northern America, Europe and Central Asia have on the air quality of the region. The surrounding surface in the vicinity of Observatory is reasonably homogeneous, is covered by regionally typical mixture of wet and dry tundra vegetation, seasonal streams, rocky shale areas, permafrost. Sea shore of SOGO Bay is situated on the distance about 200 meters from main building of Observatory (meteorological station Polarka). For investigations of atmospheric pollutions the special pavilion (clean air facility, CAF) has been built on the distance about 1.5 km from the main building and 5 km from village Tiksi. Heating of CAF is organized by electrical heaters.
